How to Find Twitter Username | If You Forgot (2024 Tips)

Enter email address and get social media info & more

Following Twitter’s announcement to deactivate idle accounts, many people who don’t use Twitter much may need to reactivate their accounts before logging in again. That process requires not only your email address used for registration but also your username, according to users’ feedback online1. And if you’ve forgotten the username as you recover the account, you may get stuck in the endless cycle of password resetting.

We know how torturous it can be. In this post, we’ll share with you several tips on how to find the Twitter username. And they actually work!

1. Check your email inbox

This is an simple yet clever trick shared by some online forum users to find the Twitter username if one has forgotten it. If you still have access to the email address that’s used for creating your Twitter account and don’t clear your mailbox much, you may find the old username from the verification emails they’ve sent in the past2.

Simply navigate to the mailbox and search for emails sent from Twitter, because they normally mention usernames in these emails. Then search for the titles like ‘security alert’ or ‘confirm your Twitter account’.

Check if there are any emails of this kind. If so, you’ll easily locate the username. But if the option leads to nowhere, you can try a people search tool.

2. Search by the phone number

Intelius is one of the best reverse phone number search tools. With its access to large amounts of publicly available data, Intelius can help you find the possible Twitter accounts linked to the phone number. Simply enter the number, and it will present you with a report that may include the linked social media accounts, addresses, and more details of the number searched.

  1. Go to Intelius.
  2. Enter the phone number and click SEARCH.
  3. Click CONFIRM and the search will start.
  4. Wait until it finishes and click the VIEW REPORT button. The report may include the owner’s contact info, address, social accounts, and more. You’ll need to purchase a plan before you can view the report.

3. Run a reverse email address lookup

Running an email lookup will also help you find the Twitter username since one needs to provide their email address for registration.

To do that, we recommend BeenVerified. It’s a leading social media search engine with access to a large reservoir of data. Enter an email address, it’ll give you the linked social accounts, contact info, and owner – if you’re researching others.

BeenVerified is a subscription-based service. During the subscription, you can access its email, phone number, address, and vehicle lookup features. All of that can help you find the Twitter username more easily.

4. Invoke the verification email

Note that this method only works when you still have access to the email address that has been used to register your Twitter account. As you try to restore access to your Twitter account on the official website, they will send you an email to verify that’s you.

Navigate to the Twitter login page, click on the Forgot password? button, enter the email address, and let Twitter send you a verification email. Then you will receive an email containing the code required to gain access to your account and the username.

If you’re signing in with Google, it may ask you to provide your username. In that case, just click on Sign in with Google to invoke the verification email. Then check your email inbox to find it and your username in it.

5. Contact support

If all of the above methods don’t work for you, you may consider contacting the help center directly and asking for assistance. You’ll need to file a help ticket specifying your situation and requirements to the support group. In the case of reinstating your suspended account, you’ll need to submit an appeal.

Note that the process can take time, and you might be asked to provide additional proof of ownership in certain cases. From what some Twitter users have shared online, it takes about 2 business days to get an account recovered, if approved3.

That’s pretty much all the tricks to help you find the Twitter username fast. We hope you get some luck as you search for the username and don’t have to be stuck in the endless password resetting process.
