Reasons include the service provider didn’t set up such a feature, or the database being outdated. In this post, we’ll share how to do a VoIP CNAM lookup and get the caller’s name, address, and more.

How to trace a VoIP number?

Tracing a VoIP number is not so different from tracing a normal phone number. Any number, as long as it’s frequently used, will leave traces for you to find on the Internet. There are a few promising sources to identify the VoIP caller.

For example, there are online CNAM directories. Or the user might use it to register new social media accounts if it supports SMS verification, a necessary step for most social platforms. Besides, the number might be marked as spam online. All of the information will help you trace the caller.

1. Run a Google search

Google is a direct way to gather information as you look up a VoIP number. As we mentioned above, if the number is marked as a scam or spam in some online directory, a simple Google search will pull out relevant information and help you identify the caller.

Browse the results and check if there’s anything that can help you identify the caller. If not, chances are the number is newly registered and didn’t leave many traces. Also, Google is not capable of finding the social media accounts linked to the VoIP number. Read on to find out how.

2. Reverse phone number lookup

3. Use a CNAM directory

There are numerous CNAM directories to choose from online, one of them is freecallerlookup.com. But most of them will give you only a caller name, without anything else. Besides, sometimes the databases might be outdated and not so accurate.

4. Find linked social pages by syncing contacts

If the caller has created social media accounts using the VoIP number, you can explore more about them after finding the accounts. But phone number search doesn’t work so well on social apps. To fix that, you can sync your contact. Take Instagram as an example.

1. Add the VoIP number to the contact list of your phone.
2. Open Instagram, go to your profile page and click the hamburger icon in the top right corner.
   
3. Go to Settings – Account – Contacts syncing, and set the button to ON. Then you should find the account linked to the number on your page.
