SOLVED: Discord No Route Error

Recently many users have encountered the No Route error as they are trying to join a voice channel on Discord. If you run into the same problem, don’t worry. While this can be a little frustrating, it’s often not hard to fix at all…

How to fix Discord No Route error

Here are six fixes that have helped other Discord users resolve the No Route error. Just work your way down the list until you find the one that does the trick for you.

1. Restart your router/modem and computer
2. Check your firewall/antivirus program
3. If you’re using a VPN, disable it
4. Disable Quality of Service High Packet Priority
5. Flush DNS and renew your IP
6. Change the Server’s Voice Region

Fix 1: Restart your router/modem and computer

The No router error may occur if the IPv6 connection is interrupted by the changing dynamic IP. Fortunately if this is the case, restarting your router/modem and your computer can magically fix it.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Unplug your modem (and your wireless router, if it’s a separate device) from the power socket.
   
   
2. Wait 60 seconds for your modem (and your wireless router) to cool off.
3. Plug the network devices back in again and wait until the indicator lights are back to the normal state.
4. Restart your computer.
5. Check Discord to see if the no route error still occurs. If the error doesn’t recur, you should have no problems connecting to voice. If the issue remains, please try Fix 2, below.

Fix 2: Check your firewall/antivirus program

It is possible that the voice server connection is being blocked by the firewall or the antivirus program on your computer. So you should check your firewall/antivirus and make sure the Discord app is whitelisted.

If you haven’t installed an antivirus, you still need to check Windows Defender to see if Discord is on its whitelist. Here are the steps on how to do it:

1. On your keyword, press the Windows logo key and type firewall, then click on Firewall & network protection.
   
2. In the Firewall & network protection window, click Allow an app through Firewall.
   
3. In the pop-up window, look through the list of allowed apps to see if Discord is included. If not, click Change settings > Allow another app…, and then allow it access over private networks.
   
4. Check Discord to see if you can join the voice chat channel without a problem.

If you have an antivirus program on your computer, you should also make sure to add Discord in its allow list.

No route error resolved? Great. Still no joy? Please move on to Fix 3, below.

Fix 3: If you’re using a VPN, disable it

Another possible cause of the connection error is a VPN, specifically, a VPN that is not using UDP (User Datagram Protocol).

If you happen to be actively using a VPN service when the error occurs, you should verify if the VPN is the culprit.

To do so, simply disable the VPN. After that, load up Discord and check if you can join a voice channel. If yes, then the problem is fixed. If you still can’t be connected or this fix doesn’t apply in your situation, don’t worry. There are a few more fixes for you to try.

Fix 4: Disable Quality of Service High Packet Priority

Discord has a feature called “Quality of Service High Packet Priority” that is built to improve voice channel quality and performance. Unfortunately this feature may sometimes cause requests to mess up, hence the No Route error. So you should disable Quality of Service High Packet Priority to see if it fixes the problem.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Open Discord.
2. In the bottom left corner, click the User Settings icon.
   
3. In the left pane, click Voice & Video, then on the right pane, scroll down to Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority and disable the toggle.
   
4. Close Discord.
5. Re-launch Discord and test if you can join in the voice channel. If yes, then congrats, you’ve fixed the error. If the error still pops up, please try Fix 5, below.

Fix 5: Flush DNS and renew your IP

Overtime, your computer will automatically cache IP address and other domain name system results. This is usually fine because it helps speed up subsequent requests to the same domain. But sometimes the results may have gone incorrect or outdated, causing the no route error. So you should flush your DNS and reset your IP to make sure your computer communicates with the hosts correctly.

To flush your DNS:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows Logo Key and type cmd. Then right-click Command Prompt when it comes up as a result and select Run as administrator.
   
2. When prompted for permission, click Yes to run Command Prompt.
3. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter on your keyboard. 
   

To renew your IP:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows Logo Key and type cmd. Then right-click Command Prompt when it comes up as a result and select Run as administrator.
   
2. When prompted for permission, click Yes to run Command Prompt.
3. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter on your keyboard.
   
4. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter on your keyboard.
   
5. Check Discord to see if the No Route error is resolved. If not, please continue with Fix 6, below.

Fix 6: Change the Server’s Voice Region

You may also run into the no route error because the server is in a different location, or there is an outage with the current server. If this is the case for you, you might have to change your voice server region to work out the issue.

If you have admin rights for the server, you can change the region yourself. If you don’t, simply ask the admin to do this for you.
