How to Search Crime Statistics by Address Easily (2024)

Curious about how safe a neighborhood is and want to have a quick check of it? You’re in the right place! In this post, we’ll show you how to easily search crime statistics using just an address, giving you peace of mind.

Why is it important to check crime data? 🤔

When preparing to relocate, it is critical to get some local neighborhood statistics about the new area. Among amenities such as schools, parks, access to medical care, entertainment options, and so on, It’s also important to check safety issues.

Being aware of crime rates, presences of sex offenders, and violent criminals in the vicinity of your desired property enables you to make informed choices for your living arrangements, which helps you understand any potential risks.

If you have little clue of how to access crime data on the Internet, continue reading and we will guide you through the steps to get crime rate and reports for a neighborhood.

1. FBI Crime Data Explorer

Initially, I explored the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer for overall crime statistics at a state level. It offers filters to select a state, year, and crime type to check data from official figures, displaying detailed crime-related demographics of the state you search.

However, most recent data available only goes back to the last calendar year. And it also lacks granular, hyperlocal neighborhood data I needed. So next I checked AreaVibes and people search engines for more specific lacoal details.

2. AreaVibes

For a more address-specific approach, I turned to free websites like areavibes.com. This platform allows you to research a place with an address, neighborhood, and city, scoring every livability factor from A+ to F. By checking the crime section in the search result, you can obtain basic crime info.

This approach works well for those wishing to see an all-round picture of a neighborhood’s livability. However, be prepared for some ads as it is a free service.

3. Reverse address lookup

Last, I found reverse address lookup is a useful trick to background-check who are the neighbors in an area and know if there is any sex offender nearby.

For in-depth crime statistics at a specific address’s neighborhood, people search engines became my go-to option. Below are three notable platforms I’ve tried.

1. BeenVerified

BeenVerified is an all-in-one people search engine that is also skilled at uncovering useful details about a neighborhood. Without much hassle, BeenVerified can help you search billions of public records and make sure the neighborhood is right for you or your family.

More specifically, via its reverse address search, you may find valuable info such as:

  • A list of possible residents
  • Census figures of the neighborhood
  • Safety information of neighborhood sex offenders
  • Property ownership

The BeenVerified address report includes a possible neighborhood safety section, and from there, you can find if there is a sex offender within a 5-mile radius of the address.

2. Spokeo

Spokeo, known for its affordability and helpful information, offers an Address Lookup service that scours billions of public records. With one simple search, you can learn and assess a neighborhood’s safety, including info about crime rates, county safety statistics, and nearby sex offenders.

Based on the address you searched in Spokeo, a report with safety information will be provided, displaying the crime index in terms of violent crime and property crime

3. Intelius

Intelius is a platform designed to give people access to public record search reports and more to stay informed. With its comprehensive reports sourced from local, state, and federal public records, you may findlocation details, ownership history, community demographics, crime statistics, nearby sex offenders and a variety of other useful information.

When you enter an address into Intelius, a well-organized report will be generated for you. In the report, there are related crime stats and type trends at the state and city levels presented in tables and charts.
(In order to view the report, you will need to purchase a membership plan that best fits your needs.)

Bottom line

In my quest for neighborhood safety insights, I explored FBI data, free websites, and robust people search engines like BeenVerified. Each method offers a unique lens into crime statistics, allowing you to tailor your search based on your specific address needs.

These statistics provide insights into the types of crimes and trends in the area, helping you take appropriate precautions, stay informed and safe.
